At NYPACE, we believe that listening to entrepreneurs is one of the most important ways we can strengthen the small business ecosystem.
Early in January 2026, we were proud to partner with Small Business Majority to convene a roundtable of NYPACE entrepreneurs alums representing a wide range of industries and experiences. What emerged from the discussion was both inspiring and concerning: despite their resilience and determination, many NYPACE entrepreneur alums are facing mounting challenges that threaten their ability to grow, hire, and compete.
Participants shared firsthand stories about rising healthcare costs that force difficult personal and business decisions, unpredictable tariffs that delay innovation and expansion, and persistent barriers to accessing affordable capital. Many also highlighted the growing burden of childcare and caregiving responsibilities, as well as the challenge of attracting and retaining talent while competing against larger corporations with deeper resources.
Yet throughout the conversation, one theme remained constant: New York’s entrepreneurs are committed to building thriving businesses and creating opportunities in their communities. What they need is a more supportive environment that recognizes the realities they face and helps remove barriers to growth.
I invite you to read the full summary of the discussion and learn more about the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of small business in New York City. Together, we can help ensure that entrepreneurs have the support they need not only to survive, but to thrive.
